All This Shit On the Floor
Listen: there is no "best practice" for getting through a year-long pandemic where everyone authorized to lead America through this crisis shat the floor so hard and repeatedly that the floor is now just awash with so much shit that it's all anyone can do to stand up in it.
Whatever it is that you’re doing? It’s probably your best.
After all, the “average” American is not responsible for this pandemic response. And yet the “average” American is being asked to keep calm and carry on through so many layers of crisis mismanagement that it would be comical if were it not so fucking sad and pathetic.
What we’re all bearing witness to is just how fucking useless some of the most finely educated and most powerful white men really are when their own shit hits the fan.
Could a lot of this mess have been prevented with better planning? Oh yeah. Could the loss of life been drastically reduced had someone anticipated disaster? Definitely. Without a doubt.
But what white men love is power. What they flee from is accountability.
In fact, the whole response is made all the worse by the capitalist response to it. You’ll notice America with our privatized healthcare system ranks near the top of every list for deaths and casualties among all nations we’d consider “developed.” I mean it sucked when it came to delivering healthcare before the crisis so that should really be no surprise.
But the scary thing about it is that COVID-19 is not the worst it could get, by no means. Memes are now doing the heavy lifting once done by science fiction, initiating the young, hopeful, and naive to the very real horrors that they can look forward to as climates fail and weather patterns stop holding.
Why won’t anyone do anything about it? they ask, already knowing the answer.
All they have to do is look at all this shit on the floor.
